I'm not saying you're wrong that could well have happened.
However, in an earlier round that season we beat Aston Villa with Potts at right back and inexplicably Ian Ormondroyd on the left for them, Potts outjumped the lanky bastard every time, much to everyone's amusement.

Cholo I am sure I was at that game, that Francis lad, pretty sure he went on the left wing with us having Pottsy at RB, who promptly won the first header against him in front of the West Side You can join the dots on the ensuing hilarity

Was in the North Bank for the second replay with my mates from school, it was nuts! Think we won 2-1.
Got moved from the North Bank to the Chicken Run due to overcrowding, and then got moved back again! Was great being on the pitch watching Ludo and David Kelly warm up before the game.

Presumably Dundee United were quite good around then which was the last knockings of decent Scottish players. Milne's claim to fame is that he scored on the day they won the League in 1982 or 3.

I vaguely remember the second replay at upton park, Kevin keen scored and Derby brought on 6'8" freak Kevin Francis.

John Lyall had a thing about Dundee United in the 70's and 80's and we were often linked with a number of their players. Whether it was because of Lyall's Scottish roots or whether it was because we had signed Ray Stewart from them in 1979, who is to say? However, I believe that he tried on several occasions to sign, or we were linked with, Ralph Milne, Paul Sturrock and Paul Hegarty, amongst others. I even remember a home friendly one Saturday afternoon, I think in 1982 or thereabouts, on a blank FA cup weekend after we had been knocked out in the previous round.
When Macari signed Milne it was like signing, albeit temporarily, the one that had got away under Lyall, but several years too late.

The one appearance that Milne made for us is part of an important story at the time. We were in the worst part of the Macari reign. Had just lost 2-1 at home to Hull in one of the worst games I've ever seen at UP. An injury crisis and cup-tied Morley, Bishop, Quinn and Foster meant that our back four contained Strodder and McQueen alongside an unfit Alvin Martin and George Parris at right back.
The rather unwelcome replay came about after a Tony Gale back pass had handed Derby a draw in the first game. For the replay we simply didn't have 12 fit players on the books. Stewart Robson was brought back early for his first game following long-term injury (welded into a pair of cycling shorts, as FAH described it). Alan Devonshire was given enough Lemsip to play through his four-year-long bout of flu. Phil Parkes was in goal, replacing on-loan Perry Suckling. Liam Brady played carrying a knock.
And Ralph Milne was signed on loan to play in that game. A proper rear-guard action lead by Robson in particular. 120 minutes of unexpected fight from what FAH (again) called the Thirteen Half-Fit Heroes.
At the end a reporter attempted to interview Milne, who refused, saying that he wasn't a West Ham player.
We won the second replay at Upton Park a week later, earning a semi-final place against Oldham Athletic. I really can't remember what happened next...

Ah, yes. Is he still around? If he was running down the wing on a windy day half of his barnet was in with the crowd.

Would never have remembered that he once turned out for us.
On loan from Manchester United and made one sub appearance (on for Liam Brady) in a goalless League Cup replay away at Derby.
